ADHD/ADD

Each diagnosis is individual in how it presents, how it is experienced, and therefore how it should be managed. On this page, you can find general information about ADHD/ADD.

What is ADHD/ADD?

ADHD/ADD is used as a term for a neuropsychological variation that affects the brain's regulation of attention, activity level, and impulse control. Individuals with this profile may experience difficulties maintaining focus, particularly during routine or prolonged tasks. ADHD is considered a regulatory disorder, where the regulation of emotions, energy, sleep, and hunger/satiety can also be challenging. Some individuals may also have a high energy level and act quickly on impulses. All of these characteristics can, in certain situations, affect well-being and daily functioning, especially in contexts that require sustained concentration and structure.

Why is diagnosis important?

Assessment for ADHD in adults may be relevant for several reasons, including if you are a parent of a child with ADHD, as the condition can be hereditary, and increased insight can strengthen overall family well-being. Some also choose to be assessed in connection with treatment for addiction or other mental health challenges. For others, the desire for assessment arises from recognizing symptoms in themselves and seeking clarification.

How is ADHD/ADD treated?

Treatment of ADHD/ADD at Ish.y & Berg is based on a combination of knowledge, support, and individually tailored interventions. Psychoeducation, guidance in managing everyday challenges, and cognitive behavioral therapy can be key elements, particularly if there are also symptoms of anxiety or depression. For many, however, these interventions alone are not sufficient, and medical treatment may therefore be an important supplement.
